After two weeks of play, the Short Stop Market
Yellow Jackets have the early lead in the standings as they slipped by the
Mike Thompson Ford - Mercury - Mazda Falcons in the opening game this past
Saturday at the Frank R. Mullins Youth Football Field located at Waggoner
Park. The two teams battled to a 0 - 0 tie at the end of the first quarter.
The highlight of that quarter was Jordan Sheffield of the Falcons intercepting
a Jacket pass. Jordan Sheffield broke loss early in the second quarter and
rambled 16 yards for a Falcon touchdown, Sheffield also added the conversion.
The Yellow Jackets answered with a good drive that ended with Trey Burks breaking
through the middle for eight yards and a Jacket touchdown, the conversion
attempt failed. Jordan Sheffield of the Falcons returned the Jacket kick off
40 yards, putting the Falcons in good field position for a short drive that
ended on a one-yard burst up the middle by Eric Nelius. Jordan Sheffield threw
a short pass to Brandon Koche for the Falcon conversion. The Falcons lead
is 14 - 6 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Jackets moved the ball and Burks pounded in the
touchdown from two yards out, the conversion attempt failed. The two teams
exchanged punches the remainder of the third quarter and most of the fourth
quarter. The Jackets put a nice scoring drive together as time was winding
down. The score came with about 20 seconds remaining in the game as Aaron
Banks, the Jacket quarterback, connected with Zach Lampkin from approximately
15 yards out. Lampkin went high in the air at the one-yard line and hauled
in the pass with a spectacular catch and came down and backed into the end
zone. The Yellow Jackets win 18 - 14 in a truly great youth football game.
The Yellow Jacket head coach, Jason Dendy, praised the work of Aaron Banks, Adam Banks, and Hayden Eggleston on defense and Jacob Gagnier, Blake Greene, and Jake Crabtree on offense. Travis Sheffield, head coach of the Falcons, praised the efforts of Kenny Belt on defense and Brandon Koche.
The second game of the day pitted the Bank of Tullahoma Tigers against the host Sports Plus Bulldogs. The going was slow early in the game but the Sports Plus Bulldogs drew first blood late in the first quarter. The Tigers answered as Scottie Maupin raced around the right side for a big gainer that set up the Tigers first score early in the second quarter. The Tigers were driving and Alex Williams scored as he fell on a loose ball in the end zone, the conversion attempt failed. The Bulldogs got hot and added three more scores before the intermission. Justin Brandon scampered 55 yards for a touchdown and Zane Price added a two point conversion as he split the uprights making it 15 - 6 in favor of the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs scored again from 53 yards out as Bulldog quarterback, Van Williams, threw a strike to Justin Brandon and Brandon raced in for the score, the conversion attempt failed. The Bulldog's last score of the quarter came as Brandon raced in from 22 yards out, Zane Price split the uprights again making it 29 - 6 in favor of the Bulldogs at the half. The lone score in the second half was set up as Jordan McKelvey, of the Bulldogs, intercepted a Tiger pass and returned it 35 yards. Zane Price then broke free on the outside and scampered 40 yards for the score. The Bulldogs win 36 - 6.
Head coach, Warner Tomes, of the Bulldogs praised the hard work turned in by Jesse Kochans and Brett Martin on defense and Nick Thompson and Aaron Gray on offense. Tiger head coach, Billy Bates, praised the efforts of Hayden Hines, John Maldanado, and Jackson DuBois on defense and Ben Carter, Scottie Maupin, and Charlie Scott on offense.
The ARAMARK Cardinals, SIM&S Titans and the Stan McNabb Chevrolet - Cadillac Cowboys will all be in action this coming Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. These three instructional division teams will continue with three team round robins for the next several weeks. In the upper division, the Sports Plus Bulldogs will host the Short Stop Market Yellow Jackets at 9:00 a.m. and the Bank of Tullahoma Tigers will host the Mike Thompson Ford - Mercury - Mazda Falcons at 10:30 a.m.
We plan to have a few extra activities before
the games get started, as Mayor Troy Bisby will be on hand for our grand opening
at the Waggoner Park facility.

Week Three Results
The race for the lead in the league standings tightened back
up this weekend as the Sports Plus Bulldogs suprize the previously undefeated
Short Stop Market Yellow Jackets. After three weeks we have the Yellow Jackets,
Falcons, and the Bulldogs all knotted at the top of the standings with records
of 2 wins and 0 loses.
The day began with a short ceremony dedicating the new Waggoner Park Frank R. Mullins Youth Football League facility. Mayor Bisby and several other city and state dignitaries were present for the opening. The first game of the day pitted the previously undefeated Short Stop Market Yellow Jackets against the host Sports Plus Bulldogs. The Yellow Jackets seemed to be in control of the game taking a 12 – 0 lead into the half. Zach Lampkin got the Jackets on the board in the first quarter as he broke loss around the end and ran it in from 16 yards out, the conversion attempt failed. The Jackets led 6 – 0 after the first quarter. The Jackets scored in the second quarter when Trey Burks tossed a pass to Zach Lampkin for a touchdown covering 28 yards, the conversion attempt failed. The Jackets led 12 – 0 at the half.
The Bulldogs opened the third quarter with a score as Zane Price broke around the end and raced 20 yards to the end zone, the Bulldogs then kicked a two-point conversion. The Jackets answered as Trey Burks burst off tackle and rambled 18 yards for the Bulldog touchdown, the conversion attempt failed. The Jackets lead is 18 – 8 at the end of three quarters. The fourth quarter belonged to the Bulldogs as they scored twice to take the victory. Jordan McKelvey scored with a 1-yard burst up the middle and the conversion attempt failed. The Bulldogs held the Jackets and put together a good drive as time was running down. Justin Brandon scored from two yards out with only 20 seconds remaining on the clock. The Bulldogs held on to win 20 – 18.

The second game of the day pitted the Mike Thompson Ford – Mercury – Mazda Falcons against the host Bank of Tullahoma Tigers. Jordan Sheffield got the Falcons on the board early as he scampered 80 yards for the first score of the day; he also added the two-point conversion as he split the uprights with his kick. Later in the first quarter, Jordan Sheffield hit Justin Brown with a pass covering 23 yards for the second score of the day; the conversion was good as Brown plunged into the end zone. Eric Nelius scored for the Falcons in the second quarter as he burst across the line from four yards out, the conversion attempt failed. The Falcons lead 21 – 0 at the half.
The third quarter was scoreless as both teams traded punches with no results. The Falcons added there final score early in the fourth quarter as Jordan Sheffield hooked up with his little brother Justus on a pass covering 35 yards and Jordan added another two point conversion as he split the uprights with his kick. The Falcons win 29 – 0.
Travis Sheffield, the head coach of the Falcons, praised the work of Christian Kazmark, Cody Michael, and James Dougherty on offense and Jordan Sheffield, Shandon Hill, and Tyler Legeune on defense. Head coach Billy Bates of the Tigers praised the efforts of Tristan Scott and Ben Carter on offense and Hayden Hines and Ryan Swinford on defense.
This week’s action at the Waggoner Park facility will have the Sports Plus Bulldogs hosting the Mike Thompson Ford – Mercury – Mazda Falcons at 9:00 a.m. and the Bank of Tullahoma Tigers hosting the Short Stop Market Yellow Jackets at 10:30 a.m. The instructional division will play a three-team round robin beginning at 9:00 a.m. The first game will have the Stan McNabb Chevrolet – Cadillac Cowboys hosting the SIM&S Cardinals, then the Cardinals will host the ARAMARK Titans, and the last scrimmage of the day will have the Titans hosting the Cowboys.

Week Four Results
The Sports Plus Bulldogs and the Short Stop Market Yellow Jackets
remain tied for the lead in the Mullins Youth Football League. The Bulldogs
outlasted the Mike Thompson Ford – Mercury – Mazda Falcons in
the first game and the Jackets handled the Bank of Tullahoma Tigers in the
second game this past Saturday.
The Bulldogs played host to the Falcons in the early game. The Bulldogs got the scoring started early as Josh Brandon fielded the opening kick-off and raced 60 yards down the right sideline for the touchdown, but the Falcons blew through the gaps on the conversion attempt and blocked the Bulldog kick. With only a few seconds off the clock, the Bulldogs lead 6 – 0. The Falcons got on the board a little later in the first quarter as Falcon quarterback, Jordan Sheffield, rolled right and hit Justin Brown in the end zone for a touchdown covering 16 yards. The Falcon conversion attempt was stopped short and the game was knotted at 6 as the first quarter came to an end. The Falcons resorted to a little trickery late in the second quarter as Jordan Sheffield threw back to Justin Brown who then hit Brandon Koche with a beautiful pass covering 35 yards. A few plays later the Bulldogs, Zane Price, intercepted a Sheffield pass to end the half. The game is still knotted at 6 at the half.
The Bulldogs kicked an on-side kick to start the second half and got the ball as Josh Brandon fell on the ball. After a short drive, Zane Price busted through the middle for 2 yards and a Bulldog touchdown; the Falcons blocked the point after kick again as the Bulldogs take a 12 – 6 lead. The Falcons came right back and tied the game at 12 when Sheffield started right and then cut back up the middle and raced 40 yards for the Falcon score, the conversion attempt failed. The Bulldogs then put together what would turn out to be the last drive of the day that resulted in a Bulldog score as Price turned it around the right side and plunged into the end zone from 1 yard out, the conversion attempt failed. The score came with 14 seconds remaining on the clock; the Bulldogs win 18 – 12.

The last game of the day had the Short Stop Market Yellow Jackets hosting the Bank of Tullahoma Tigers. The Jackets got on the board early as Trey Burks broke several tackles and rambled up the left sideline for 50 yards and the Jacket touchdown, the conversion attempt failed. The Jackets lead 6 – 0. Later in the first quarter, Burks smashed up the middle and rambled for 36 yards and the Jacket score, the conversion attempt failed. The Jackets lead is 12 – 0 at the end of one quarter. The two teams battled through most of the second quarter before the Tigers cut into the Jacket lead. Tiger quarterback, Caleb Olive, pitched the ball to Caleb Zidan going to the right and Zidan pulled up and tossed a pass to Scottie Maupin for the touchdown covering 35 yards, the conversion attempt failed. The Jackets lead is 12 – 6 at the half.
The Jackets came out and dominated the third quarter as Burks added two more Jacket scores. The first acme as Burks broke several tackles up the middle and raced in from 37 yards out, the conversion attempt failed. His last score of the day came as he started right and then cut across the field and scampered 58 yards for the score, Dayton Snipes added the conversion as he toke the ball in the middle and burst into the end zone. Neither team could mount any offense in the final quarter and the Jackets take the win by a score of 25 – 6.
The Yellow Jackets head coach, Jason Dendy, congratulated Hayden Eggleston, Nick Gagnier, and Josh Duncan for their play on offense and Houston Smith, Jake Crabtree, and Astari McCallum for their play on defense. Billy Bates, head coach of the Tigers, praised the efforts of Caleb Zidan and Scottie Maupin on offense and Logan Millsaps and John Gerdon on defense.
The Instructional Division continued with the round robin scrimmages on Saturday. There has been much improvement on all three teams over the past three weeks. Kevin Pearson, head coach for the Stan McNabb Chevrolet – Cadillac Cowboys was singing the praises of several of his ‘Shinning Stars’ after the games Saturday. He said that running back Preston Davis had a very impressive day, as did wide out Ross Sloan. On defense linebacker, Dylan ‘Jack-hammer’ Pearson and lineman Montana ‘Pile’ Driver and David Mareno made several jarring tackles. David Gagnier had several solo tackles and Carson Bishop playing linebacker and Gruber Holden a lineman for the ‘Boys in Blue’ also had good days.
Mark Mullins, head coach for the SIM&S Cardinals, said that his offensive line did a great job as several of the running backs had big runs throughout the day. Malik Bean, Emanuel Williams, Steve Pursley, and Andrew Nelius all had runs of more than 10 yards. He also praised the work of his quarterbacks, Jay Phillips and Jack Uselton, as they both scored touchdowns. The defense was solid with Gage Morrison and Ahmad Taylor leading the way from their defensive line positions. Derrick Pursley, Dalton Jones, Chase Hawkersmith and Dylan McElhaney also had very good defensive performances. Jay Phillips also had an interception while playing in the safety position.
Mark Rambo, head coach of the ARAMARK Titans, praised the work of his entire team. He noted the big runs made by his running backs, Paxson Howard and Brett Schmitz, which was made possible by his offensive line. He also noted the great play turned in by his defensive linemen, Chris Nolan, Brad Belt and Josh Espy. He said that they lived in the opponent’s backfield all day. Coach Rambo also commented on the progress that has been made by Ethan Norfleet noting that he is his most improved player.

Week Five Results
The Sports Plus Bulldogs emerge as the leader in the league championship race after five weeks of action with the Short Stop Market Yellow Jackets and the Mike Thompson Ford – Mercury – Mazda Falcons both only one game out of the lead. The early game on Saturday had the Bank of Tullahoma Tigers hosting the Sports Plus Bulldogs and the Short Stop Market Yellow Jackets played host to the Mike Thompson Ford Falcons in the late game.
The Bulldogs came out and scored early and often
as they built a 20 – 0 lead in the first quarter. Their first score
came as Justin Brandon broke several tackles and scampered 62 yards up the
right sideline for the touchdown. Zane Price split the uprights with a kick
for a two-point conversion. The Tiger offense was unable to move the ball
and gave it up to the Bulldogs. It did not take long for the Bulldogs to get
back on the board as Zane Price broke loose from 5 yards out and scored, the
kick attempt failed. The bulldogs next score came on defense as Brandon scooped
up a Tiger fumble and raced in from 35 yards out, the kick attempt failed
again. The Bulldogs lead is 20 – 0 after one quarter of play.
The teams battled back and forth during the second quarter until the Bulldogs
quarterback, Van Williams, hit Josh Brandon with a strike covering 35 yards
resulting in a Bulldog touchdown; Price put another kick through the uprights
for the two-point conversion. The Bulldog lead at half is 28 – 0.
The Bulldogs add another touchdown in the third quarter and two more in the fourth, as the Tigers never get untracked. Josh Brandon rambled 15 yards for the Bulldog score in the third quarter, the conversion attempt failed. In the fourth quarter, Terrell Bryson broke through the Tiger defense and raced 75 yards for the score the conversion was good. The final score came as Josh Brandon intercepts a Tiger pitch and raced in for a 48 yard score. The Bulldogs win 47 – 0.

In the second game of the day, the host Falcons offense set the pace. The Jackets, playing without the one of their team leaders, Zach Lampkin, could not get things started. The Falcons score in the first quarter came as Jordan Sheffield broke loose and rambled up the left sidelines for 32 yards, the conversion attempt failed. The Falcons scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter as Sheffield broke loose for scores covering 20 yards and 55 yards; they added one of the conversions. The Falcon lead at the half was 19 – 0.
The teams battled to a scoreless third quarter before the Falcon offense cranked it up again in the fourth quarter. Brandon Koche took a reverse and scampered in from 19 yards out, the conversion attempt failed. The final score of the day came as Sheffield bulled his way into the end zone from 20 yards out; the point after kick was no good. The Falcons win 31 – 0.
Falcon head coach excitedly gave the credit for the win to his offensive line and his entire defense. Jason Dendy, head coach for the Jackets, praised the efforts of Grayson Miller and Cole Potter on offense and Grant Rigney, Jacob Gagnier, and Astari McCallum on defense.
The single game in the instructional division had the SIM&S Cardinals hosting the ARAMARK Titans, the Stan McNabb Chevrolet – Cadillac Cowboys did not play. All the scoring came in the early part of the first quarter. Paxson Howard of the Titans got the ball on a reverse and raced 60 yards for the Titan touchdown, the conversion attempt failed. The Titans held the Cardinals out of the end zone and got the ball deep in their own territory when Ahmad Taylor of the Cardinals burst through the Titan line and blew the play up in the back field for the Cardinal safety. The Score after the first quarter of play was Titans 6 and the Cardinals 2.
The defenses took over in the second quarter and neither team could find the end zone the rest of the day. There were several turnovers by both teams, Bryson Triplett of the Titans had a fumble recovery and Cody Ridner of the Titans intercepted a Cardinal pass. The Titans win by a score of 6 – 2.

Week Six Results
The offenses controlled the games after returning from a week off. The Sports Plus Bulldogs continue to maintain a slim one game lead over the Mike Thompson Ford – Mercury – Mazda Falcons as both teams posted victories this week.
In the early game, the Short Stop Market Yellow Jackets hosted the Sports Plus Bulldogs. The Jackets got on the board first as defensive lineman, Grayson Miller, picked up a Bulldog fumble and rumbled for 26 yards and the conversion failed. The Bulldogs answered with an impressive drive that ended as Justin Brandon swept the end for the 5-yard running score and the conversion failed. The first quarter ended with the teams knotted at 6.
The two teams swapped scores again in the second quarter with the Jacket’s Trey Burks bursting through the middle and finding the Bulldog end zone from 5 yards out and the conversion failed once again. The Bulldogs answered again with a good looking drive that ended with Zane Price charging in from 8 yards out and the conversion was good. The Bulldogs lead 13 – 12 at the half.
Early in the third quarter, the Bulldogs extended their lead as Zane Price sprinted into the end zone from 17 yards out and Justin Brandon added the conversion. The Jackets came right back and answered with a score. On fourth and short, the Jackets rolled the dice and went for the first down. They handed the ball to Burks and 62 yards later the Jackets added another touchdown, the conversion failed again. The Bulldogs added another score in the third quarter as Price got loose again and raced 56 yards into the Jacket end zone and Brandon added the conversion. The Bulldogs lead was 27 – 18 after three quarters.
Early in the fourth quarter, Burks picked off a Sam Tomes pass and sprinted70 yards for the Jacket score and the conversion failed. On the following kick-off, Brandon fielded the short Jacket kick and raced down the sideline for another Bulldog score and the conversion was good. With 3:01remaining on the clock, the Jackets gambled on fourth down and short and were stopped short of the first down. The Bulldogs then added two more scores late in the fourth quarter as Tomes ran a bootleg and scored from 48 yards out. Josh Brandon, twin brother of Justin, raced in from 48 yards out and the conversion failed. The Bulldogs win 46 – 24.

Jordan Sheffield of the Falcons scored the first touchdown of the game as he scampered in from 12 yards out and the conversion attempt failed. Sheffield scored again in the quarter on another run and the conversion attempt failed. The Falcons got on the board again late in the first quarter as quarterback, Justin Brown, connected with Brandon Koche for a touchdown pass covering 5 yards and conversion attempt failed. The Falcons lead was 19 – 0 after the first quarter.
Devonte Morrison of the Falcons added another touchdown in the second quarter on a nice running play and the conversion attempt failed. Later in the quarter, Brown hit Koche again for a touchdown and the conversion attempt failed. The Tigers then got on the board as quarterback, Caleb Olive, pitched the ball to Caleb Zidan heading around the right end and Zidan pulled up and fired a strike to Scottie Maupin for the Tiger score covering 57 yards and the conversion attempt failed. The Falcons added another score in the second quarter on a Koche run and the kick attempt was blocked. The Falcons lead was 31 – 6 at the half.
The Falcons added another score in the third quarter as Koche took the ball on a reverse and raced 60 yards for the Falcon score and the conversion filed. The Falcons lead was 37 6 after three quarters.
The Tigers put a drive together in the fourth quarter running the ball right up the gut that ended with Caleb Zidan busting up the middle for the score covering 2 yards and the conversion attempt failed. Koche of the Falcons took returned the ensuing kick-off and returned it for the last score of the day and the conversion attempt failed. The Falcons win 44 – 12.

In the Instructional Division, the Stan McNabb Chevrolet – Cadillac Cowboys played host to the ARAMARK Titans. Early in the first quarter, Brett Schmit, of the Titans broke around left end and scampered 80 yards for the Titan score and Josh Espey added the conversion. In the first quarter, Josh Espey and Brett Schmit both ripped off big runs covering 23 and 25 yards respectively. Schmit added another score as he raced in from 25 yards out and Espey added the conversion. The Titans lead was 14 – 0 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, the Titan quarterback, Doran Noble scored on a fun covering 20 yards and the conversion attempt failed. The Titans also had a big pass play in the second quarter as quarterback, Doran Noble, hit Brett Schmit with a pass covering 40 yards. The Titans lead was 20 – 0 at the half.
Cowboy’s running back, Dylan Pearson, had several big runs in the game covering more than 20 yards on at least three occasions. Josh Espey jumped on a Cowboy fumble and his team took advantage of the turnover and scored on a 45 yard run by Noble. The Cowboys had several big plays in the third quarter in addition to Pearson’s runs. Preston Davis took the ball from Carson Bishop on the old statue of liberty play for a pick-up of 17 yards and Carson Bishop hit Pearson with a pass covering another 19 yards.
In the fourth quarter, Bishop hit Pearson with another pass covering 18 yards that set up the only Cowboy score of the day as Pearson rambled in from 8 yards out. Late in fourth quarter, Noble got loose again and rambled into the Cowboy end zone form 20 yards out. The Titans win 32 – 6.
